It has been an eventful season for the St. Peter's Prep football team, and the Marauders will finish the year the best way possible. St. Peter's punched its ticket to the Non-Public Group IV state finals at MetLife Stadium with a 28-7 semifinal win over Bergen Catholic. The Marauders steadily pulled away over the final three quarters with a strong contribution from both sides of the ball. Quarterback Johnathan Lewis threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another to lead the offensive attack.
Lewis had 143 passing yards, with touchdown throws to Shayne Simon and Jorge Portorreal. Portorreal led the third-seeded Marauders in receiving with 81 yards on four catches. In the ground game, Lewis was the leading St. Peter's ball-carrier with 19 rushes for 80 yards and one score. Damion Abrams also had a touchdown run for the Marauders. Bergen Catholic moved the ball fairly well at times, but turned the ball over six times in the game. St. Peter's came up with two interceptions and four fumble recoveries. Josh McKenzie rushed for 117 yards and scored the only Bergen Catholic touchdown. Johnny Langan had nine complete passes on 28 attempts for 125 yards, with Ankaury Camilo the leading receiver with 60 yards on three catches. Second seed Bergen Catholic, which started the season 5-0, ends with a 7-4 record. St. Peter's is now 8-3.
