Luke Mutterer stood tall against a Wayne Valley onslaught in the final four minutes to allow his Ramapo ice hockey team to win its season opener. Mutterer made many of his 26 saves in the third period as the Green Raiders pulled out a 3-2 win. Michael Lagana had a goal and an assist as Ramapo built a 3-1 lead early in the second period. The Raiders had chances to widen that margin as they had a clear edge over the first two periods of the game, played at the Ice Vault.
Ben Surat and Kyle Livernois also scored for Ramapo. Pierce Fogarty and Dalton Graham added assists. Matt Taylor spelled Mutterer briefly in net and made two saves. Wayne Valley cut its deficit to 3-2 on Gary Ragusa's goal with just under four minutes to play. The Indians had five more shots on goal down the stretch but couldn't get one past Mutterer. Marc Perez scored Wayne Valley's first goal on a solo rush. Daniel Bielsten and Christopher Coleman had assists on Ragusa's goal. Joe Sponenberg kept the Indians in the game with 32 saves. Wayne Valley dropped its second game to start the season, while Ramapo will wait until this coming Friday for its next game.
