After giving up a lead late in the third period, West Milford responded quickly to open 2017 with an ice hockey victory. The Highlanders scored twice in the final three minutes to knock off Ramapo, 3-1. Chris Dressler had a goal and set up the game-winning goal by Nick Ferrari. That tally came just 27 seconds after the Green Raiders had tied the game on a score by Ben Surat.
Ryan Pych completed the scoring with an empty-net goal with 22 seconds to play to cinch the win at the Ice Vault. Both goaltenders excelled in this Big North Conference contest. Freshman Nick Johansson stopped 33 of 34 shots for West Milford. Luke Mutterer had 42 saves for Ramapo. Michael Lagana and Joe Vocca got assists on the goal for the Green Raiders, who slip to 3-7-2. West Milford's Kyle Little and Dylan Dinzik also picked up assists. The Highlanders won their first game after a five-game stretch that included four losses and a tie, and are now 5-6-1 overall.
