The Hanover Park girls' basketball team is off to a strong start this season. And a fast start helped the Hornets pick up another win, as they grabbed the lead early and never gave it up in a 56-38 triumph over Villa Walsh. Alexa Petrozzino led Hanover Park with 18 points. Ava Gammo scored 17, including eight from the foul line. The Hornets scored all 15 of their points in the fourth quarter at the charity stripe as Villa Walsh continuously fouled in an attempt to rally from behind.
Alexa Bursese and Kelsey Stiles added seven points apiece for Hanover Park, while Meghan Macaluso had five points and 13 rebounds. The Hornets broke a tie score midway through the first period by putting up nine straight points. Villa Walsh never got closer than eight points the rest of the game. Isabella Modugno led the Vikings with nine points, while Karin Brett scored eight. Kiley Molnar had four points and nine rebounds. Erin Fischer notched five points, four assists and five steals. Villa Walsh slips to 4-3 on the season. Hanover Park is now 6-1 overall, with its only loss coming in a holiday tournament final against Morristown.
