With a dominant second half, St. Joseph handed Wayne Hills its first defeat of the boys' basketball season. The Montvale-based school had a 40-19 edge after halftime on its way to a 70-45 triumph. Wayne Hills was unbeaten entering the game, but it was St. Joe's that came in ranked in the state's Top 20 teams. The Green Knights backed up their big win over St. Mary (Elizabeth) with this impressive performance.
Chauncey Hawkins led St. Joe's with 20 points to go along with several assists. Isaac Hippolyte scored 16 points, punctuated with an alley-oop dunk in the fourth quarter. Amine Ogbamicael scored 11 points off the bench for the Green Knights, all in the second half. Joe Radi added seven points. Wayne Hills was led by Justin Hodge, who scored 19 points. Joey Belli added nine for the Patriots, who slip to 7-1. St. Joe's is now 7-3, with its losses coming against St. Anthony, Don Bosco Prep and Bergen Catholic, all ranked above the Green Knights in the Top 20.
