The Don Bosco Prep wrestling team made a clear statement as to why it is one of the top teams in New Jersey again this winter. Taking on a previously-unbeaten Clifton squad, the Ironmen won 11 of 14 bouts in a 54-14 triumph. Don Bosco had seven pins on the night. Jordan Iannone opened the match with a fall at 113 pounds. The Ironmen closed the match with three straight pins, by Peter Acciardi (220 pounds), Eric Chakonis (heavyweight) and Justin Bierdumpfel (106 pounds).
Peter Ferdinandi, Alec Corrao and Dom Mandarino also recorded falls for Don Bosco. Clifton trailed 12-11 after four bouts, thanks to a technical fall by Matt DePasque and a pin from A.J. Tudda. But Don Bosco picked up three straight decisions from 138 through 152, and would roll to victory. With the loss, Clifton is now 6-1. Don Bosco is 4-3, with an out-of-state loss and two narrow defeats, but is ranked #8 in New Jersey.
