An early three-point barrage allowed DePaul to seize control of its Passaic County boys' basketball quarterfinal against crosstown rival Wayne Valley. The Spartans rode that advantage all the way to the finish, earning an 89-73 victory. Freshman John O'Reilly and sophomore Bryan Henderson did the long-range damage for DePaul. O'Reilly hit five three-pointers to account for his 15 points, while Henderson had three treys and ended up with 13.
Five DePaul players scored in double figures, led by Zion Bethea's 19 points. Eddie Davis notched 18 points and Elijah Everett had 14. The Spartans ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run to grab a 25-12 lead after one. DePaul led by as much as 18 points early in the second quarter, and Wayne Valley never got closer than nine points the rest of the way. Mark Howell had a huge game for Wayne Valley, scoring a game-high 27 points. A.J. Tedesco added 22 points, and Jared See scored 14 for the Indians. Fifth-seeded Wayne Valley made 11 three-pointers in the game. The Indians are now 11-8 overall. DePaul, the fourth seed in the Passaic County Tournament, is 11-10. The Spartans will meet top seed Paterson Eastside in the semifinals next weekend.
