Down by a dozen points in the second half, the Paterson Kennedy boys' basketball team turned up the pressure in its Passaic County Tournament semifinal against Wayne Hills. The Knights charged back to force overtime, then pulled out a tough 61-59 win. Tamir Williams led second-seeded Kennedy with 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Knights got contributions up and down the lineup as they moved on to meet city rivals Eastside in next weekend's championship game.
Jaylen Colon scored 11 points for Kennedy. Joseph Shoulars contributed nine points and nine rebounds, while Deishon Harrison also scored nine points. Jamir Lattimore had the only basket of the overtime period, a put-back that came more than three minutes into the extra session. The Knights stopped the last attempt by Wayne Hills to pull out the two-point win. Justin Wills led the third-seeded Patriots with 14 points. Joey Belli, Jason Modak and Justin Hodge scored 10 points apiece for Wayne Hills, which led 44-32 in the third quarter and held a seven-point advantage in the fourth. Wayne Hills falls to 17-5, just missing out on its first-ever trip to the county final. Kennedy is now 16-5. The Knights will try to prevent Eastside from winning a fourth straight county title in Saturday's final game.
