After visiting Ramapo raced out to a big lead at the start of its sectional boys' basketball semifinal, River Dell found itself chasing the game. The Golden Hawks finally caught up in the fourth quarter, then finished the job in overtime, advancing to the North 1, Group III sectional final with a thrilling 58-55 win. River Dell trailed 13-0 before finally getting on the scoreboard, and still trailed by double digits in the third quarter. But the Hawks put together a big surge spanning the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth period to tie the game, and eventually take the lead.
Ramapo rallied to force overtime, but River Dell never trailed in the extra period. Jack Capasso scored seven of his 11 points in the overtime. Dave Estevez had 12 points to lead River Dell. Matt Monaghan and Nick Sirico also had 11 points apiece and Alex Sebastiani added nine. K.C. Hunt ended his sophomore season with a big 22-point performance for seventh-seeded Ramapo, including a three-point play with a minute left in regulation that tied the game at 42-42. Andrew Curcura had 11 points for the Green Raiders, while Jason Oppler scored nine. Ramapo ends its season with a 16-12 record. Third-seeded River Dell is now 19-7, and will host the North 1, Group III sectional final on Monday against fourth seed Teaneck.
