Ridgewood made quite a start in its boys' lacrosse season opener, scoring eight times in the first 19 minutes. The goals dried up for the Maroons the rest of the way, but the big early lead proved more than enough in a 10-6 win over Northern Highlands. Quin Peene scored four times in that opening burst for Ridgewood, which allowed the Maroons to build an 8-1 lead. Dylan Peabody, Jack Kiernan and Jack Barclay notched a goal and an assist apiece.
Vincent Riggio, Declan Scanlon and Wylie Sherman also had goals for Ridgewood. Ted Murphy and Ben Pounds combined for four saves in the net. Keenan Alward led the offense for Northern Highalnds, scoring three goals. Cooper Richards had one goal and added three assists for the Highlanders. Ethan Plasker and Christian Lane also scored for Northern Highlands and Greg Coleman made eight saves. This season opener was a rematch of last year's thrilling Bergen County Tournament final, also won by Ridgewood; both teams are in the state's Top 20 entering the new season.
