Seton Hall Prep stunned Delbarton, the top-ranked boys' lacrosse team in New Jersey, with a come-from-behind 8-7 victory. The Pirates scored five times in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning goal with just two seconds left on the clock. Griffin Westlin led the Seton Hall offense with a huge game, scoring four goals and adding two assists. Westlin tied the game for the Pirates with under a minute left in the fourth, then set up Chase Malatesta for the dramatic winning score.
The result itself ranked as a surprise, but the final-period offensive outburst against Delbarton's dominant defense was even more shocking. The Green Wave had allowed just eight goals total in its first four games of the season. Brian Tevlin had two goals and an assist for the Pirates, while Luke Blanc added one goal and one assist. Goalie Cam Fiore helped keep Seton Hall in the game to make the comeback possible. Fiore made 17 saves. Casey Shoemaker scored three times for Delbarton, which led 5-1 in the second quarter and 6-3 heading to the fourth. Tom Schelling, Garrett Samuelson, Michael Long and Matt Campbell also scored for the Green Wave. Goalies Liam Higgins and Miles Leniw combined for 14 saves. Delbarton slips to 4-1 with the loss. Seton Hall, which came into the game ranked #9 in New Jersey, is 3-1 with the victory. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey high school boys' lacrosse game, click play in the box at left. |
