In a game both teams thought they had won in regulation, Westfield and Pingry needed overtime to decide the real winner. With a goal in the first extra session, Westfield pulled out a wild 7-6 home boys' lacrosse victory. Fittingly, it was Devon McLane who scored the game-winner for the Blue Devils, with a shot from a severe angle. The goal capped off a huge day for McLane, who led Westfield back from a four-goal deficit by scoring three times and adding two assists.
Jake Wornow also had three goals for the Blue Devils, and Nick Bond added one score. Westfield trailed 5-1 midway through the third quarter, but scored the next five goals to take the lead with three minutes to play. It appeared the Blue Devils would win in regulation, but Spencer Duryee set up Jake Moss for a goal a split-second before the final buzzer sounded to allow Pingry to force overtime. George Enman led the Big Blue with three goals. Cameron Wright and Luke Ackerman also scored and Duryee had two assists. Frankie Dillon made seven saves in the first half for Pingry. The Big Blue falls to 3-3, with all three losses to teams ranked in the New Jersey Top 20. Jack McCauley had nine saves for Westfield, including a stop on a potential game-winning goal in overtime. The Blue Devils improve to 3-2. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey high school boys' lacrosse game, click play in the box at left. |
