Bergen Catholic turned what was supposed to be its toughest local match-up into a rout. New Jersey's top wrestling team won all but one bout against arch-rival Don Bosco Prep en route to a 69-3 triumph. The Crusaders got four pins and three major decisions on the mat. With several key Don Bosco wrestlers nursing injuries, the Ironmen decided to forfeit five weight classes against Bergen Catholic's star-studded lineup.
Danny DeLorenzi started things off with a fall at 220 pounds. Later, Ricky Cabanillas, Wade Unger and Joe Grello all recorded pins for Bergen Catholic. Don Bosco, whose coach Chris Bitetto unexpectedly resigned his post just hours before the match, got its only win from heavyweight John High. The Ironmen are 6-2 in dual meets this season. Among the Bergen Catholic wrestlers who won by forfeit in the match were three-time state champion Nick Suriano and Kevin Mulligan, another defending state champ. The Crusaders are 4-0 so far; Bergen Catholic is headed to Philadelphia this weekend for a dual tournament featuring some of the top teams in the nation.
