With the match a seeming foregone conclusion, the big question for the Bergen Catholic wrestling team was whether coach Dave Bell would dab to celebrate a fifth straight state championship.

Answer: Yes, he did. And, oh yeah, the Crusaders took care of their part of the bargain with a typically dominant 50-6 win over St. Augustine in the Non-Public A state final at Toms River's Pine Belt Arena.

The Crusaders won 12 of 14 bouts, including four pins, to take down the Hermits, who were ranked in the state's Top 10. Bergen Catholic cemented its third straight #1 ranking in New Jersey, and few teams have ever been so dominant in the Garden State.

Bergen Catholic even got back one of its starting wrestlers, Shane Griffith, who was injured in the opening tournament of the season. Griffith won his bout at 138 pounds and should be ready to defend his state title this week.

Nick Suriano, Joe Grello, Josh McKenzie and Brady Ford had pins for the Crusaders. Gerard Angelo won by technical fall. The biggest surprise of the evening came at the end, when coach Bell channeled his inner Cam Newton to celebrate the victory.

Bergen Catholic finishes the dual-meet season at 15-2 and unchallenged against New Jersey foes.

St. Augustine ends up 16-5.
