Montclair jumped out to a big early lead and never looked back in an 80-45 boys' basketball triumph over Hillside. Cameron Lipton-Martinez had 24 points to lead the Mounties to the non-league win. Playing at home, Montclair scored the first 10 points of the game. After Hillside shaved the lead to seven, Lipton-Martinez sparked a 13-0 run for the Mounties that put them fully in control of the contest.
Lipton-Martinez had six three-pointers and also added three assists. Tahlik Summers scored 14 points for Montclair and Charles Murphy contributed 11. Shawn Smith had eight points, six assists and three steals in the winning effort. Hillside was led by Boris Nicolas-Paul, who scored 13 points. Camare Headley added 11 for the Comets. It's the ninth straight loss for Hillside, which is 6-16 overall. However, the Comets will play in the state tournament next week, starting with a road game at North Plainfield. Montclair improves to 13-8. After one more tune-up game, the Mounties start state tournament play with a home contest against Kearny.
