In a game dominated by defense, Cedar Grove did just enough to earn a girls' basketball win over West Essex. The Panthers held on down the stretch for the 27-23 victory, as a key steal in the final seconds helped Cedar Grove secure the win. Elyse Fearon was the only player in double digits for either team, scoring 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds for Cedar Grove. Makenna Boutmy had three points and 11 rebounds for the Panthers and made the crucial steal.
Danica DeFrank led West Essex with seven points. Michelle Inga had six points and 10 rebounds for the Knights, who cut a six-point deficit to one in the final minutes but couldn't quite finish off the comeback. This was the final game of the season for West Essex, which finishes 6-16. Cedar Grove is now 16-8. The Panthers next play Monday in a first-round state tournament game at Becton.
