It was too much Isiah Reyes. Too much Quayon Williams-King. And too much of the Newark West Side boys' basketball team. The Roughriders and their up-tempo, high-scoring style proved too much for Hanover Park in the North 2, Group II sectional semifinal. Reyes led the way with 35 points as West Side earned an 89-75 road victory.
Reyes scored 20 points in the first half alone as the Roughriders charged out to a 17-point halftime lead. He also added five assists and three steals. Williams-King scored 23 points for West Side, to go along with 11 rebounds and four assists. Yasim Hooker added 10 points and eight rebounds for the third-seeded Roughriders. Hanover Park made 12 three-pointers in the game, including a heave from nearly half-court by Joey Jandoli to end the first quarter. Jandoli ended up with 11 points as part of a balanced scoring attack for the Hornets. Donny Dattolo led Hanover Park with 16 points. John Crown scored 13 points and Matthew Pitts added 12 for the second-seeded Hornets. Hanover Park's season ends with a 21-8 record. West Side advances to the sectional final with a 22-7 record. The Roughriders will play at home against the fourth seed, city rival Newark Central.
