For the second straight year, the Wayne Hills-Wayne Valley football game featured a big comeback and an exciting finish. This time, though, it was the Patriots who were celebrating at the end. Erik Martinez booted a 34-yard field goal in the first overtime to lift Wayne Hills to a 17-14 triumph. The Indians had led 14-0 at halftime.
Quarterback Justin Degroat keyed the comeback for the Patriots, running for one score and directing the attack. Justin Hogan's 1-yard touchdown run tied the game early in the fourth quarter. Both teams had scoring opportunities before the end of regulation, but neither could cash in. Wayne Valley failed to move the ball on its overtime possession and missed a long field goal, setting up Martinez's heroics. Billy Crank threw a pair of touchdown passes to Mark DeLuise in the second quarter for Wayne Valley. Crank was injured later in the game and unavailable in the crucial final minutes of the contest. Wayne Hills is now 2-0, winning both games in comeback fashion, while Wayne Valley is 1-1.
