Scoring three times on a five-minute power play, Lakeland broke open a close game and pulled away to defeat rival West Milford in the quarterfinals of the Big North Liberty Cup. Chris Wands and Andrew Heck had two goals apiece in the 7-1 win. Despite a huge advantage in shots, the Lancers only led 2-1 heading to the third period. But with West Milford a man down due to a major penalty, Lakeland seized its opportunity.
Shane Davison had a goal and four assists for the Lancers. Danny Mullin scored a goal and assisted on two others, and Zach Querazzi also scored. Kyle Andreniuk had four assists and Sean Komjian stopped 11 shots for Lakeland. West Milford goalie Ryan Browne kept his team in the game with 37 saves. Dylan Dinzik had the only goal for the eighth-seeded Highlanders, who end their season at 5-14-2. Lakeland is now 20-1-2. The top-seeded Lancers meet Mahwah in the cup quarterfinal on Monday.
