After nearly two hours of spirited wrestling, the battle between Essex County's top two teams came down to the rulebook. After a lengthy consultation, Caldwell came away victorious over Seton Hall Prep, 35-34 on criteria. The Chiefs were declared winners based on Criteria H in the tie-breaking list, most first points scored. It came down to that after the two teams matched each other bout-for-bout throughout the night.
Caldwell secured four pins while Seton Hall earned three pins and a forfeit victory. Both sides also won one major decision and two regular decisions to leave the score tied at 34-34. Nick Russomanno of the Chiefs won the final bout at 126 pounds to bring his team into the tie. Caldwell was battling from behind all night, only leading once during the proceedings. The Pirates nearly pulled off the victory by winning all three bouts that went into overtime, including one match that resulted in an OT pin. Seton Hall Prep, which edged Caldwell last weekend to win the Essex County tournament title, falls to 9-6 in dual meets. Caldwell is 8-6.
