Roxbury hung on in the frantic final seconds to capture its first Halvorsen Cup on the ice at the Mennen Arena. The Gaels controlled play for much of the game before holding off Madison for the hockey win, 2-1. Nick Zaragoza and Brendan Sanderson scored the goals as Roxbury built a 2-0 lead after two periods while out-shooting the Dodgers. A.J. Pisani made 20 saves, many of them in the final period as Madison poured on the pressure seeking a comeback.
As the final buzzer sounded, the Gaels threw their sticks and gloves into the air to celebrate. It's only the second cup championship in team history; Roxbury won the Haas Cup in 2008. The Dodgers would not have had any hope without the play of their goalie, Kavi Sinha. He made 23 saves, including several spectacular stops, and also denied a penalty shot. Charlie Cleaves had the goal for Madison on a power play with six minutes left to go. The top-seeded Dodgers, who won the Halvorsen Division regular-season title, head into the state playoffs with a 13-11-1 record. Roxbury, the second seed in the Cup tournament, improves to 14-8-3 overall.
