With tough defense and a balanced offensive effort, the Morristown-Beard ice hockey team passed an early non-league test. The Crimson, ranked #5 in the state, scored a 4-1 triumph over Bergen Catholic. Four different players scored for Morristown-Beard, while its defense allowed only 17 shots on goal. The Crimson scored three straight goals after Bergen Catholic tied the score midway through the game.
Anthony DelTufo made 16 saves for Morristown-Beard. He was also helped by the goalie's best friends, as Bergen Catholic twice hit the crossbar in the third period. Gavin Puskar, Brayden Patricia, Mike Karrat and Thomas Dempsey had the goals for the Crimson. William Frasetto scored the only goal for Bergen Catholic off a rebound of a shot by Dylan Saccone. Chris Branch made 15 saves for the Crusaders. Bergen Catholic, a member of the elite Gordon Conference, falls to 0-2. Morristown-Beard, which plays in the Mennen Division, another of the state's top leagues, is 2-0.
