A goal in overtime lifted David Brearley High School to the Group I boys' soccer state final, while dashing the hopes of Waldwick for a second straight year. Andrew Lomnicki scored the game-winning goal just over two minutes into the first overtime period. He took a pass from Justin Estremera, and after Waldwick goalie Erik Neugebauer saved his first shot, Lomnicki put home the rebound to end the game.
Brearley returns to the state final for the second time in three years, and will seek to match its title from 2013. Waldwick, which won the North 1, Group I sectional title for the second year in a row, started well in this game at Millburn High School. The Warriors created a few chances, but could not crack the scoreboard. After the early surge, though, it was Brearley that had the best of play. The Bears ended up with an edge of 20-10 in shots, and never allowed Waldwick to have a corner kick in the game. Goalie Juan Martinez made six saves for Brearley, which is now 12-7-2 this season. The Bears meet South Jersey's Arthur P. Schalick in the final on Sunday. Neugebauer had six saves for Waldwick. The Warriors finish the season at 17-6.
