For the third time in less than two weeks, Katie Gattoni had a huge day at the expense of a Wayne girls' lacrosse team. The Old Tappan senior scored seven goals and assisted on five others to lead the Golden Knights to a 13-9 win over Wayne Valley. All of her assists went to Melissa Errico, who had five goals and two helpers.
Wayne Valley tied the game 4-4 midway through the first half, but Old Tappan scored three straight goals to build an 8-5 halftime lead. The Golden Knights pushed the margin to five in the second half. Valley cut the deficit to 12-9 with about seven minutes to play, but Old Tappan was able to run out most of the remaining time, and a goal by Errico helped seal the victory. Rachel Hofbauer scored three goals for the Indians and Madison Carlucci added a pair. Gattoni seven goals and five assists matched her totals from Old Tappan's 13-12 victory over Wayne Hills six days earlier. And yet those performances pale in comparison to her effort against DePaul on April 13th, when Gattoni scored 14 goals and added five assists in a 22-16 Knights win. The Indians dropped their third game in their last five to fall to 7-3. Old Tappan has the same record.
