This was the kind of performance the Wayne Valley boys' lacrosse team had been searching for. With the state playoffs looming, the Indians played up to their potential in a 10-4 win over a solid Fair Lawn squad. Valley entered the game with a 7-7 record despite big expectations coming into the season. After a solid start, the Indians endured a series of one-goal defeats. But in this game, there would be no such worries.
Playing at home, Wayne Valley raced out to a 4-0 lead in less than eight minutes, then added three more goals in the second quarter for a 7-1 halftime lead. The Cutters managed three goals in the third quarter but never got closer than a five-goal deficit the rest of the way. Dave Drozjock had two goals and two assists for the Indians. Billy Crank and Robert Papa also scored twice for Valley. James Clarke added a goal and two assists while Brendan Feddema made eight saves. Dillon Rinaldo had a pair of goals for Fair Lawn, which drops to 14-4. Wayne Valley opens state tournament play in North Group III with a challenging road game Saturday at Scotch Plains-Fanwood.
