The records suggested it would not be close, but those who follow the boys' soccer rivalry between Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley knew otherwise. The Patriots, who came in with a far better record, had to rally to knock off the Indians 2-1. Goals by Anthony Han and Justin Diglio brought Wayne Hills from behind in the second half. The goals came within 10 minutes after Wayne Valley's Andrew Vecere converted a penalty kick to put the Indians ahead.
The Patriots had a number of chances to score earlier in the game, but Wayne Valley goalie Ben French made several big saves. Wayne Hills goalie Grant Kelly was also solid, making several saves early in the contest. The Patriots' defense prevented any real scoring chances once they had taken the lead. With the win, Wayne Hills improves to 9-4 while Wayne Valley falls to 3-9. For sports video highlights of this Big North Conference boys' soccer game, click play in the box at left. |
