Wayne Valley stepped forward towards its dream of a boys' volleyball sectional title with a quarterfinal round triumph over Hackensack. The Indians swept the Comets, 25-15 and 25-17. Danny Sciolaro and Mike Foglia led Wayne Valley with seven kills apiece in the match. Alex Widovic added six kills, while Emir Suljic had three kills and two blocks.
Hackensack, seeded seventh, got seven kills from Marco Fontana. Edward Emedoh had six kills and 2.5 blocks while Mac DiTomasso had 21 assists. The Comets finish their season at 18-10. The Indians, the second seed in North Jersey Section 1, are now 23-3. Coming off its upset loss to Lakeland in the Passaic County tournament final, Wayne Valley hopes to rebound in the state tournament. The Indians next face third seed Belleville, with top seed Fair Lawn the definite favorite to capture the sectional crown.
