Behind a big game from Alphonso Gee and some tough defense down the stretch, Paterson Kennedy defeated Wayne Valley in the semifinals of the Passaic County boys' basketball tournament. The Knights held on for a tough 53-47 win. Unfortunately for Kennedy, the team violated an state association rule by having a suspended player on its bench during the contest. The Knights will forfeit the game and their place in the county final.
The Passaic County Coaches' Association announced on Tuesday that Wayne Valley will not advance to the final either. After consulting with the NJSIAA, the PCCA decided to award the county title to Paterson Eastside, the other semifinal winner. In the game that was played, Gee pumped in 27 points for second-seeded Kennedy, which maintained a single-digit lead throughout the second half. Aalim Jones scored seven points and had several assists for the Knights. Wayne Valley fought back numerous times to keep the game close and had the ball down by three points with less than two minutes to play. But the Indians could not score further and Kennedy closed out the game. Kyle Greve led third-seeded Wayne Valley with 16 points. Nick Goodwin scored 12 and Nick Giuliano added 10.
