A back-and-forth battle on the opening night of ice hockey season perhaps fittingly resulted in a tie between Ramapo and Wayne Valley. Both teams had chances to score the game-winner but settled instead for the 3-3 draw. Jake Pergolizzi had a goal and an assist for Ramapo. Zach Van Peenan and Stephen Schwab also scored for the Green Raiders, and Maxx Trabattoni notched a pair of assists.
Josh Dimas led Wayne Valley with a goal and two assists. Alex DePalma and Braden Ploehn also found the net for the Indians. Wayne Valley controlled a long stretch of the second period, turning a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. But Ramapo scored late in the second, then took a 3-2 advantage on Pergolizzi's goal in the opening minute of the final stanza. Ploehn evened the score less than three minutes later. The rest of the contest saw both sides create opportunities, but neither could get the puck past the goaltender. Wayne Valley outshot Ramapo 25-19 in the game played at the Ice Vault. Cort Fodi made 22 saves for Ramapo, which is looking to bounce back from a tough season last winter. Wayne Valley goalie Joe Sponenburg had 16 saves. It's a promising start for the Indians, who went 4-18-2 last year.
