Fending off a series of comebacks, the Wayne Valley boys' basketball team secured a big win over Paterson Eastside. The Indians held on down the stretch for the 58-51 home triumph.

Nick Goodwin scored 23 points to lead the Wayne Valley offense. Nick Giuliano added 16 points for the Indians, while Elijah Beard scored eight.

Alex Kokos had a pair of crucial free throws in the final minute of the contest, then converted a press-breaking layup to help ice the victory. Kokos ended up with seven points.

Wayne Valley led by eight points after one quarter only to see Eastside rally to tie the game at the half. The Indians went up by eight early in the third quarter, but again the Ghosts came back with a 9-0 run to take the lead.

After grabbing the lead heading to the fourth, Wayne Valley quickly established a 10-point advantage. But again Eastside charged back, cutting the lead to a single point with about a minute to go before Kokos helped the Indians take the victory.

Terra Gatling and Nhazir Smith scored 11 points apiece to lead Eastside. Al-Jamu Johnson added 10 for the Ghosts, who fall to 8-4 on the season.

Wayne Valley improves to 10-2 with the win.
