Charles Ratner scored the game-winning goal just seven seconds into overtime as Northern Highlands advanced to the Bergen County Tournament boys' lacrosse final. Ratner's blast lifted the Highlanders to a tense 4-3 semifinal win over Ramapo. Northern Highlands had possession to start the overtime because of a penalty taken by Ramapo late in regulation. Ratner took a return pass and fired the winning shot.
Ethan Plasker scored two goals for the Highlanders, while Tyler Butwin had a goal and two assists. Goalie Greg Coleman made eight saves. Ramapo, which rallied from a 3-1 halftime deficit to force overtime, got a pair of goals from Andrew Robbins. Jack Landel also scored for the Green Raiders and Johnny Caponi made 12 saves. Third-seeded Ramapo falls to 9-3. Northern Highlands, the second seed, is now 11-2. The Highlanders have succeeded all season due to their stifling defense, but face the team that scored the most goals against them this season in the county final: top seed Ridgewood, which won the regular-season meeting 9-8.
