Cooper Telesco saved Ridgewood. Then Griffin Peene made them the Bergen County boys' lacrosse champions. Peene scored 53 seconds into overtime to give the Maroons an incredible 11-10 triumph over Northern Highlands in the county final. His score was made possible after Telesco scored the tying goal for Ridgewood with just 13 seconds left in regulation.
It was Telesco's fourth goal of the game. Dylan Peabody and Wylie Sherman had two goals apiece, and Jack Kiernan added a goal and two assists. Kevin Mollihan also scored for the Maroons. Ridgewood broke a 3-3 halftime tie with three quick goals, and still led by three early in the fourth quarter. But Northern Highlands stormed back, scoring four straight goals to take the lead with just 35 seconds to play. Tyler Butwin had four goals for the Highlanders, while Charlie Ratner contributed three goals and an assist. Cooper Richards notched a goal and two assists, while Keenan Alward and Ethan Plasker also scored. Goalie Greg Coleman made six saves. The second-seeded Highlanders, who hadn't allowed more than nine goals all season, very nearly won the game with their offense. Northern Highlands falls to 11-3. Top-seeded Ridgewood wins its first county title since 2012. The Maroons are 14-0; this was their fifth one-goal triumph of the season. This county final was played at Mahwah High School.
