Behind a big day at the plate, the Caldwell softball team picked up another victory in a strong season. The Chiefs delivered 15 hits as they rolled to a 14-4 triumph over Montclair Kimberley. Caldwell put the game away with a six-run rally in the bottom of the fifth to bring the mercy rule into effect. The big outburst came after MKA had fought back into the contest by scoring four times in the top of the inning.
Cayla Lombardi was the winning pitcher for Caldwell, and also went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI. Anna Rowland had a 3-for-4 day and drove in two runs, while Jess Mattheiss went 3-for-3 and also had 2 RBI. Shannon Johnson also knocked in a pair of runs for the Chiefs. Grace Turvey's two-run double highlighted MKA's fifth-inning rally. Kayla Magee added an RBI double as well. The Cougars fall to 3-6 on the season. Caldwell is now 12-3. For sports video highlights of this Super Essex Conference high school girls' softball game, click play in the box at left. |
