A second-quarter explosion led Ramapo into the second round of the football state playoffs. The Green Raiders scored 35 points in that period on their way to a 42-0 whitewash of Bergenfield in the North 1, Group III quarterfinals. Despite blustery wind conditions, Tommy Jaten threw five touchdown passes in that second quarter outburst. Three of those scores went to Jack Scordato, while Dan Diaz and Jason Oppler also caught TD throws.
Jaten ended up going 9-for-13 for 150 yards in just two quarters of action. He was also Ramapo's leading rusher, carrying the ball six times for 92 yards. Scordato had only three catches, but they covered 120 yards and all went for touchdowns. Noah Baker had three catches for 74 yards, and caught a touchdown pass from backup quarterback A.J. Wingfield in the fourth quarter. Defensively, Nicholas DeMarco had an interception and a fumble recovery. Stephen Hoover also had an interception, while Johnny Guerriero made 11 tackles. Bergenfield, which came in as the seventh seed, finishes the season at 6-4. Second-seeded Ramapo is now 7-3. In the North 1, Group III semifinals, it will host #3 seed River Dell in a rematch of last year's sectional final. The Green Raiders won that game and this year's regular-season meeting.
